Istanbul 2050
The Sponge, Istanbul 2050.
The project speculates of sea level rise in Istanbul, showing the interface of some historic sites in Istanbul with water, such as Galata Tower (originally named “The Tower of Christ” it was the highpoint in the city walls of Genoese Colony called Galata), Bosphorus Bridge and Hagia Sophia.
In İstiklal Street, it will demonstrate how the ‘’sponge like structure’’ which sucks in the water. The detail facade of this structure performs perspiration similar to skin. The project deals with issues of sustainable development, public realm and urban life in the city challenged with water.
